THIS ONE'S OLD:
About this site: This blog has existed in various versions since November of 2000. The story of it, sort of, is here. This site has, at one point or another and for some reason or another, been mentioned in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Page Six of the Post, The New York Observer, The Daily News, Nerve, CBS Sunday Morning (I know?!), The Village Voice, New York Magazine, Time Out New York, and most randomly-awesomely of all, Australian Vogue. No, I have not yet written a book or a book proposal, but I totally plan to someday.
Bio:
I'm a writer living in Chinatown, New York, New York. My writing (mostly humor essay type stuff) has appeared in Jane Magazine, GQ, The New York Post, McSweeneys.net (one list counts!), The Black Table, Flak Magazine, Eyeshot, and MTV.com, among others. I've guest co-edited at Gawker.com a few times, and was the daily guest blogger for Jane Magazine's website in April, May, and September of 2006. I was a staff writer at comedycentral.com from 2004-2008, and I often contributed to the late Jane Magazine blog.
About My Humor Reading Series: I started my on-again, off-again comedy/humor reading series, Ritalin Readings ('cause it's short readings for people with ADD, get it?) in Spring of 2004. I occasionally overcome my stage fright and organize another one with producer Jon Friedman and co-host Alex Balk.
UPDATE: ON AGAIN with co-host Gabriel Delahaye. Details here.
Random stuff that might explain some of my blog obsessions:
- I'm originally from the sleepy Southern, very un-Florida town of Tallahassee, Florida.
- I moved to New York, and started blogging, in 2000. (That's why all my friends are bloggers. It's like, totally okay.)
- I was raised in The Jesus Movement, (the fundy/tongues branch, not the free love branch) but (and?) I'm no longer religious. I used to picket abortion clinics. How insane is that?
- I don't like: fashion, shoes, 'the finer things in life', exotic food, chick lit, jewelry, Donald Trump, snobs, elitists, exclusivity, the illusion of exclusivity, status-anything, clubs, VIP sections, or Sex and the City.
- I do like: Comedy and pretty much anything funny, making bad art, finding bad art, nature, talking, red wine, music, charades, meeting nice/funny/talented people, and, most especially, my friends. Awww!
- I have three mottoes in life: "Music will make everything okay", "What would Amy Sedaris do?", and "That's what he said."
